Find Your Seat

There is room at the table for us ALL. Let us help you find your seat.

Fostering Hopes believes all of us are needed to create positive changes in our communities. Change the children and families we serve deserve. Here are some ways you can help create hope for the children and families in your community.

Become a Foster Parent

Currently, we only have active foster parents for HALF the children who are in custody of the state in North Carolina. As we speak, children are sleeping on cots or sofas in DSS offices, being placed in group homes and being separated from their siblings. These children need families and loving homes - but we do not have enough.

Here are the requirements to become a licensed foster home:

  • At least 21 years of age

  • A stable income

  • A home meeting some basic requirements

If you are interested in becoming a foster parent but do not know where to begin, please reach out. We will answer your questions about becoming licensed and connect you with a trusted licensing agency in your County.

Nationally, more than half of foster parents quit fostering within the first year.

Create a Foster Care ministry at your church

Fostering Hopes is deeply passionate about church communities seeing foster care as part of their local missions. Our goal is to partner with church communities across North Carolina to develop Foster Care ‘Hubs’. These Hubs will operate as a central point of support for children and families in your community. Take the next step by setting up a Discovery Meeting today where we will explain your specific community needs and what programs and ministries are most necessary to support the children and families in your neighborhoods.

Get your business or community organization involved

The foster care need is big and there is room for everyone to play a part in improving the outcomes for children and families. See how you can partner with Fostering Hopes to make an impact in your community today.

Work at Camp

Our Under 1 Sky camp program utilizes Camp Counselor, Workshop Leaders, and Support Staff to provide a year round, trauma-informed, camp experience for children ages 8-18 that are or have been in substitute care.

Under 1 Sky is NOT a therapeutic camp, instead the staff work to create an environment that is physically, emotionally, and psychologically safe for ALL of our campers to provide a space to have FUN!

Become a Mentor

Mentors are matched with a child between the age of 8 and 18 and are committed to this mentor relationship for one year. Throughout the mentoring relationship, mentors will provide support to their mentee through monthly visits, spend time engaging in the child’s interest, hold space, and maintain unconditional positive regard. Each mentor will be trained in trauma-informed services and receive ongoing training to support their role as a mentor. Our staff will provide mentors with support in coordinating visits and supplemental services so mentors can consistently show up for the mentee.

Benefits of mentoring relationships for youth in substitute care include:

  • Improved motivation

  • Enhanced psychological well-being

  • Increased social and relational skills

  • Reduced feelings of loneliness and sadness

  • Positive outcomes in education and observed behaviors
