Recruitment

Simply put- there are not enough families becoming licensed to keep up with the number of children entering foster care. This results in siblings being separated, children being sent away from their home county/community, and spiraling costs for local Government.

Fostering Hopes is meeting this need in two specific ways:

1). We partner directly with DSS agencies in North Carolina to help support their recruitment efforts. By increasing the capacity of our partner DSS agencies we increase the opportunity for children to stay in their home communities and reduce the financial burden of foster care for each county’s program.

2). We create opportunities for those who are unable foster to become involved in support care for those who have become foster homes.

Foster Families

95%

of foster children experience at least one placement disruption while in out-of-home care. [1]

20%

of the children who were in foster care will become instantly homeless after reaching the age of 18.

Fostering Hopes is passionate about supporting foster families. This includes helping them navigate all of the unique needs and challenges they face. Years of research has shown retaining foster parents to be one of the single most powerful ways to dramatically improve the quality of care for children in foster care. Many foster parents burn out within their first year of being licensed due to lack of community support which results in additional moves for foster children.

Foster Children

688

children enter foster care daily, nationwide.

65%

of children in foster care will experience 7 or more school changes.

70%

girls in foster care will become pregnant before the age of 21. [2]

The Foster Care crisis is a growing challenge for communities across the country. Fostering Hopes believes that it is the responsibility of the entire community to support children who find themselves in foster care through no fault of their own. These children are thrown into new communities, new schools and are void of significant relationships and connections they once had. Make a difference in your community today. We are here to help you, your church, your business or community group learn how to better support foster families.
